WEBINAR: Getting construction’s message across

A business webinar, organised as part of our new 2022 Infrastructure Intelligence Live series of events.

The construction and infrastructure sector is making a significant contribution to the UK government’s Build Back Better drive to ensure that the economy recovers and thrives post Covid. Given the importance of the industry to  the nation’s health and wealth, what can construction and infrastructure companies do to ensure that their work is better promoted and that they receive due credit for the impact they make on society.

This webinar will explore how firms can be effective in getting their message across to the public and other key audiences and will look at best practice examples of good communications and profile-raising activity across our sector.

WEBINAR: Nature-based solutions and going beyond net zero

A business webinar, organised as part of our new 2022 Infrastructure Intelligence Live series of events.

Many forward-thinking organisations are now actively advocating the use of nature-based solutions to support sustainable adaptation and development. More and more, nature is being talked about in a construction context and the issue was a key feature of the discussions and debates COP26, where over 90% of the policy statements released had the word nature included in them.

Pursuing nature-based solutions is a crucial part of the fight against climate change and the recognition that we are all dependent on a connected network of places where trees, soil, water and thriving, healthy ecosystems support health, wellbeing and the development of a future as a thriving and climate resilient society.

This webinar will look at the increasing importance of nature-based solutions and the promotion of an approach to infrastructure development that protects, sustainably manages and restores ecosystems to provide human wellbeing and biodiversity benefits.

WEBINAR: Will AI change the face of construction?

A business webinar, organised as part of our new 2022 Infrastructure Intelligence Live series of events.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is on the rise in construction as companies look to streamline delivery in order to meet ever-growing demand.

The rise of AI and machine learning technologies have the potential to change the face of construction and although the fear of the robots taking over is inevitable, there are positive aspects. AI can be used to explore the possibilities of each aspect of a construction project and find the best solution much quicker than a human mind can. Not only does this speed up processes, it also reduces the risk of human error which can improve safety on sites.

So, how far can AI go in the construction and infrastructure sector and will it change the industry as we know it? Find out more by booking your place at this webinar, which is organised in association with our Events and Communications Strategic Partner, BECG

WEBINAR: Opening up construction – building a more diverse industry

A business webinar, organised as part of our new 2022 Infrastructure Intelligence Live series of events.

While the construction and infrastructure sector has made significant strides forward in recent years on improving diversity and inclusion, it is still the case that at many levels the industry does not reflect the wider society that its work impacts upon.

At a leadership level, our sector needs to be more representative of the general population and that means recruiting more women and more people from diverse backgrounds to key roles. Given that spending on construction is set to increase dramatically as the UK looks to build back better following the pandemic, the industry will need to recruit new talent in numbers to be able to deliver the projects and schemes that need delivering. This webinar will look at how we go about ‘opening up’ construction and building a diverse industry at all levels.

WEBINAR: How can construction crack its skills shortage?

A business webinar, organised as part of our new 2022 Infrastructure Intelligence Live series of events.

Construction has bounced back quicker than expected from the Covid-19 pandemic and the industry is set to reach 2019 levels of output in 2022. However, the sector still faces a significant skills challenge and according to the Construction Industry Training Board by 2025, the industry will need to recruit an additional 217,000 new workers just to meet demand.

The government’s Build Back Better drive is placing increasing pressure on the industry to deliver and the sector also needs to invest in the skills that will drive change and meet new and growing needs such as net zero emissions and building safety. That means an increasing focus on specific skills and occupations such as leadership and management, digital skills and skills related to energy efficiency.

Can the industry step up to the plate? How can construction crack its skills shortage? Sign up to this webinar to find out.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT INTERVIEW: Mark Thurston, HS2 CEO

A business webinar, organised as part of our new 2022 Infrastructure Intelligence Live series of events.

The latest Infrastructure Intelligence Live In the Spotlight Interview features HS2 CEO Mark Thurston, who will talk about the challenge of delivering the major rail project that will link up London, the Midlands, the north and Scotland serving over 25 stations, including eight of Britain’s ten largest cities and connecting around 30 million people.

Thurston joined High Speed Two (HS2) as CEO in March 2017 and has more than 25 years’ experience in project and programme management. He has worked in both the public and private sectors on some of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects. As managing director for Europe at CH2M, he spent a significant amount of time in leadership roles on major programmes, including three years as strategic projects director on Crossrail.

Prior to this he was programme delivery manager on the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, where he led the Power Lines Under Grounding project and the £500m structures, bridges and highways programme.

His insights on major infrastructure planning and delivery should be well worth listening to in what should be a fascinating and enlightening interview.
